Tuk… tik… tak… tik… tuk… the sound of horse feet thumping while dragging the weight of the carriage that Mr. Saul, 64 years old, is driving. Mr. Saul who live at Kelurahan Wailan Kecamatan Tomohon Utara, Tomohon city, are striving daily for his living at downtown Tomohon as a Bendi coachman (horse-carriage-diver). A grandfather with 2 children and 4 grandchildren, is patiently and diligently serving the community in need of this Bendi (Traditional horse-carriage from Minahasa) to travel inwards to the local’s residence of Tomohon city.
Om Buang, Mr. Saul’s nickname admit that he has been a bendi coachman for 20 years, besides farming near Mount Lokon
“i earn enough with farming, but I drove my bendi nevertheless. I know i’m not young anymore, but I always wanted to work,” says Om Buang to publikreport.com, on Thursday evening Dec, 7th, 2017.
Mr Saul admit that before driving his bendi at noon, he, his wife and kids, farmed during the morning hour.
“i don’t rely on my earnings as a bendi coachman, because my earnings as a farmer have been sufficient enough for my daily needs.” said Om Buang with a friendly smile.
“Being a bendi coachman, is my way of killing leisure time after farming,” he added
